Who Are We?

Soiled was created by John Englert.

John was born and raised in Massachusetts, and currently resides in Washington with his wife Katrina, and two children, Jack and Emma.

John has an entire section of his house filled with board games. He often bugs his family to sit and play anything with him.

Not too long ago, John started an herb and vegetable garden for his family when he dreamed up this game. By dreamed up we mean in the most cliche way imaginable. John woke up at 3 am one morning having had a dream he was playing this game. He couldn't go back to sleep until he wrote down everything he could remember.

With Katrina's encouragement, he took some time to create Soiled.

It was terrible!

Being his first board game creation, John wasn't quite sure how to put it together, making it a convoluted mess. However, there was a glimmer of fun trapped in there, and he nurtured, watered, and grew the game until it was finally ready to be harvested.

After countless hours of editing and playtesting, Soiled was ready for the next step. John reached out to artists and found Ivan Giavarini.

Ivan impressed John with his illustrative work and passion for working on this project, so John turned to him to add the gorgeous artwork you see on every card in your hand.

Ivan is a freelance Illustrator and Graphic Designer raised and based in Milan, Italy.

Ivan started illustrating as a hobby but has turned it into a job and now collaborates with people all over the world on many projects such as illustrated books or digital characters for web and mobile APPs.

Ivan is inspired by a wide range of styles, such as Street Art, skating,  cartoons, and video games. Ivan looks up to artists like Shepard Fairey (OBEY), Matt Groening (Simpsons), and Ken Sugimori (Pokemon).

Ivan has always played Board Games, some very absurd and competitive. Ivan loves how they entertain and connect so many people. Because of this, Ivan was excited to collaborate on Soiled. Ivan is glad to offer his skills, illustration style, and creativity.

Thank you for learning a little about us. We hope you enjoy Soiled for years to come!
